“With you is where I belong” The aforementioned is a very common line is music, making it a bit easier to judge Garrickson's timbre and tonal presence here.
First time sounds like an acoustic duet early on. Though, when the beat comes in, the piece takes on a flavor that is more spicy and insightful to the general soundscape. Less like a ballad and more like funk and R&B, the vocals on top of the instrumental change adds pop to the original lyrics said before the beat dropped. The song structure created was fun to listen to and well put together. It’s alarming to me how welcoming this voice is, it almost makes me forget the tempo or feel of this piece.
The diversity of emotions you can interpret from this piece are another facet that sets this apart from other music. The key and tone of the instruments can give an impression of sad music, the range and tonal quality of these vocals give off the impression of a more serenaded style of song. Whereisalex is behind the production here and ahead of many others. Capturing moody licks within these instruments can be challenging.
Encapsulating compositions is where Whereisalex shines. If you haven’t already, listen to First time, out now!
