Mykal Magenta [SwanoDown Report]

Reported by Grayson Jones

We were excited from the start by Mykal Magenta. He possesses a rare combination of wisdom and innovation, much like when a child shows you a new way to do something you’ve done the same way for years—except in this case, the “child” is a grown man with a deep understanding of his craft. Listening to Mykal felt like reconnecting with a long-lost uncle, full of knowledge and stories that shift your perspective.

Mykal stays relevant by being a versatile artist, excelling as a songwriter and producer. His creative process is personal and organic, starting not with writing but with immersing himself in the music. "I rarely start with just writing," he shared, preferring to mumble or rap lyrics as he feels out the sound.

In today’s crowded digital music scene, Mykal stands out, not only through his songs but through his live performances. Even when placed in rock and roll - based venues, he attributes his success to his stage presence. "I try to develop a connection with people before I perform," he explained, using moments between songs to engage the crowd and build anticipation.

As an inspiration to aspiring musicians, we asked Mykal for advice. "If you don’t start with a solid foundation, you can’t build a house on top of it," he said, emphasizing the importance of consistently releasing music, getting honest feedback, and performing live. Interestingly, some of his biggest hits were songs he initially doubted.

Mykal Magenta is a powerful example of artistry and hard work. We encourage you to check out his latest release, along with his earlier work like the standout track “T**s and Wine.
