SWANO's 10 [Volume 4] Pt.1

Curated by Imani Wj Wright
Here at SwanoDown, we listen to a ton of music on a DAILY basis. And during these days, of course, there are standout tracks. Below you'll find the 10 compositions we feel you should check out tonight, (or soon). We find these artists to be the most cutting-edge. And oh yeah, this is in no particular order... You decide!
Literary gifted artists like Devin Kennedy, Davon Kingston, and Kane Miller, are all featured today.

Devin Kennedy- Loose Change

Has anyone ever said they were chasing the change? Have you ever actually wanted a bunch of coins making your pockets heavy and weighing you down? No, of course not. Devin Kennedy describes the awful predicament of feeling like “Loose Change.”

Davin Kingston- Red Eyes
"Borrowed your lighter and I felt a spark, Cause' when you have red eyes, it brings out the blue." Within a beautiful minimalistic composition, Davin describes the memorable moments of being on cloud 9 with his love interest. He'll even take a redeye flight to recreate those feelings with them. Davin provides a slew of double entendres throughout.

Amilli- Pulling Punches

Right away I knew Amillii was/is different. Her voice is free of fear, free of restraint/ And oh- she's not pulling punches anymore! Here she comes...

Dave Alexander- S.O.S.

David constructs a relatable and unfeigned piece. Something you'd hear in the romantic moments of a Pixar movie. David Alexander sings "Save our souls" with bone-chilling despair.

Kane Miller- Never Coming Back
"Did you think that I'd forget you? Did you think that I'd let go? Push you into nothing. Evict you from my soul... Well if it was that easy... If I could quit so soon.. Don't you think that I'd replace you, with strangers in my room?" Kane Miller puts on a massively vulnerable performance, and leaves all of his emotions on this record. You want to console him as a listener and anyone who's felt empty after a relationship's departure.

Macklin x JaMichael- Afraid to Ask

An absolutely cinematic, dramatic, and dynamic piece of art. As Macklin deals with the uncertainty of an unfaithful partner., we are saturated by orchestral strings, and an eventual decorative solo by JaMichael. "But deep inside, I know,- I know just where you've been. But I'm afraid to ask."

Kole- About Her

The realization that you're not who someone wants is godawful. But being the person who has to relay thre message is even worse. Kole seems to know that the woman he's with is not the person who truly has his heart.

Lo Lauren- Raw (Acoustic Version)

When a song is stripped back, so are some of the comfort barriers. One cannot hide behind 808s or extreme engineering. Over precisely played keys, Lo Lauren delves into the pains of slowly losing that "spark" in her relationship. "Have you forgot how fell in love? When nothing was hard 'cept being apart."

Cindy Zhang- Coffee

The manner in which Cindy approaches this piece is equivalent to her persona- dedicated, pinpoint, and gentle. This piece is titled "Coffee," but this isn't about a good brew... Take a listen and figure out what/who exactly Cindy is referring to. We always enjoy her creativity, she's a true songwriter., always thinking ahead in her approach.

Zac Pajak- Southern Comfort

We all have a place and/or person that makes everything feel alright, regardless of what's going on in our lives. For Zac Pajak, that warm place is the London south. Family, and friends are a blessing. that keep us whole.

Hannah Sands- Choices
*11*

Our decisions come with consequences. We know this, that's taught at a very young age. And the same adage holds true as adults. "You made the bed you lay in, now I'm laying somewhere new." Hannah Sands has been crossed, and she's letting her ex know know that she no longer has affection for him. "It's in the choices, the choices that you made."
