Lola Aviva- Paint Me a Picture
One of my all-time favorite documentaries is Ways of Seeing by John Berger. For all of those who read the book, listen, I'm getting to it! But- in the documentary he makes a great point about paintings and how not only the art is important but WHERE/HOW you see it is important. I won't spoil his entire explanation, but it reminded me of this track. How vivid does Aviva make this record? Quite. From her evident UK accented vocals, flaringly beautiful horns and undeniably memorable chorus, you can easily use "Paint Me a Picture" as a canvas for your own storyboarding.

Crazy bass line on this track. It's by no means anything you'd hear on your local radio station (if that's even still a thing), but you'd have a blast turning this record on if you were in the underground art scene of your favorite city. The vocals are sparingly placed throughout, but the highlight of this joint is how everything is arranged- unapologetically.
